Percipio
is a proven solution for rapid data warehouse
deployment, providing advanced data acquisition,
archival, cataloging and disemination
capabilities. |

 |
Overview
| Compusult’s Percipio
provides Internet-based information
discovery, retrieval and delivery
services within an integrated information
management and data warehouse environment. |
|
Percipio is an application
environment especially suited to the needs of
organizations that receive, catalog and maintain
data. It’s e-commerce capabilities and
advanced management tools allow the commercial
dissemination of data and data products over
intranets and wide area networks such as the
Internet. Percipio provides
the following:
- A data warehouse, built on common RDBMSs
for UNIX and Windows environments, which accepts
data from legacy systems and existing databases
in real time or batch-loading. Data can be
re-mapped, quality controlled, converted,
cataloged, archived (on-line or off-line)
and/or disseminated elsewhere in various formats,
as required.
- ODBC-compliant transactional database tools
permit population of the database via data
loading and transfer from existing databases
and other data sources (real-time, on-line
or off-line).
- Web-enabled on-line analytical processing
tools, including linkages to other Compusult
Limited commercial software packages such
as Meta
Manager and Map
Manager.
- Full functionality for implementing and
administering data input, storage, output
and integrity.
- Application Programming Interfaces (APIs)
for modifying and generating custom user interfaces
in WWW environments.
Capabilities
Percipio consolidates and/or
catalogs data into a single repository that
supports information management, cataloging,
retrieval, analysis and dissemination functions.
It enables querying across all data collections
to identify the available information for specific
ranges of parameters. Percipio
provides a very powerful way of combining and
extracting different types of information for
site monitoring, site management, data analysis
and data dissemination.
Users and clients can browse and order digital
data in Percipio catalogs and
data warehouses using standard World Wide Web
(WWW) browsing tools. This is accomplished using
PHTML, Percipio’s exclusive Web browser
macro query language. PHTML also provides the
ability to view current client accounts, orders
and samples of data and metadata associated
with the cataloged items. The delivery method,
payment method, format and delivery time of
ordered items can also be specified.
Percipio allows the retention
of as much data on-line as required. The basic
data types, data formats, archiving methods,
on-line storage requirements, data conversion
methods and metadata definitions are all maintained
via the RDBMS. They are all user-definable and
can be dynamically expanded or modified at any
time.
Percipio has the ability
to understand existing data and data models
using reverse engineering techniques. This capability
provides users with the ability to maintain
existing data dictionary definitions while utilizing
the Percipio application environment.
Percipio is open and modular and can be easily
linked to other third-party packages, such as
ArcSDE, to meet specific user requirements.
Key functionality
- a versatile data warehouse for archiving,
storing and cataloging data, metadata and
data products;
- a powerful and easy-to-use WWW search interface
that allows users to quickly locate data and
information located in the data warehouse;
- a browser interface to allow users to view
samples, images and metadata associated with
search results, to determine the appropriateness
of the results;
- on-line ordering and delivery of data;
and,
- ordering information for datasets that
are cataloged, but not held, by Percipio.
Percipio is a component of
Compusult’s Web
Enterprise Suite; a set of Internet-based
applications and toolkits that support Web mapping,
information cataloging, discovery, retrieval
and delivery services.
Percipio
is also a contributor to the Open Geospatial Consortium Catalogue Services Interoperability
initiative.
